Former NFL Star Chad Johnson Arrested For Violating Probation

Former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson was placed in handcuffs and hauled off to jail following an appearance in court this morning. He reportedly failed to live up to several conditions of the probation agreement he signed off on, and if that proves to be the case, he will likely be looking at more than just a slap on the wrist.

A little less than a year ago, police rushed to Johnson’s house after he allegedly headbutted his wife and then chased her with his car. He was quickly arrested and almost immediately, she filed for divorce. After being cut from the Miami Dolphins, he worked out a plea agreement with the court to check in with a parole officer, perform community service and take domestic violence classes, but unfortunately, he reportedly didn’t live up to those conditions, which led to a warrant being issued for his arrest and this morning’s court appearance.

According to TMZ, Johnson missed two separate check-ins with his parole officer and never offered up any documentation that he enrolled in domestic violence classes. Exactly why Johnson was so lax with following through with his PO is unclear, but such behavior doesn’t exactly send a message to his ex-wife that he really is trying.

I’m sure planning a weekly routine around checking in with the court system is really frustrating. I’m sure answering questions about alcohol intake and contact with a former spouse is frustrating, but the more efficiently one lives up to the rules, the faster those constraints get removed. We'll let you know what the court decides as to what his new punishment will be.
