GNR, Heart, Beastie Boys And Joan Jett Top The List Of 2012 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Nominees
By Jessica Grabert 4 years ago
There are so many halls of fame out there it is extremely difficult to keep track of them all. For instance, while the completely normal-sounding Virginia High School Hall of Fame mentioned in Remember the Titan does not exist, there is indeed a Pinball Hall of Fame you can visit in Las Vegas. Among all these true and false halls of fame, itís fairly difficult to stand out, unless you encompass an iconic concept and beat everyone else to said iconic concept.
With all of this in mind, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is actually pretty impressive. Which is probably why we clamor and debate every year over who will be in and who will be out. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame released its list of potential inductees today. Included are first time nominees Guns N Roses, The Cure, Joan Jett, The Small Faces/The Faces, Heart, The Spinners, and Eric B and Rakim. No doubt Guns N Roses is the biggest name on this list, but, as always, wildly popular does not necessarily equate to a win.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers certainly understand this. A lot of times the focus with Hall of Fame nominees is on the first-timers. However, the 2012 possibilities also include several names that have come up in the past. Besides the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Beastie Boys, Laura Nyro, War, and Donavon are all reappearing on the nomination ballot.
Each of the bands on the list are more than qualified to appear there. It's now up to the judges to decide whether popularity or influence, youth or apparent age will make or break this year's list.
