Hannigan Thinks New Buffy Movie Is A Big Mistake

Former Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Alyson Hannigan has blasted plans for a big-screen spin-off of the show, branding the movie "a big mistake".

The franchise began with the 1992 film of the same name, starring Kristy Swanson, which spawned the small-screen series with Sarah Michelle Gellar in the lead role. The cult TV show came to an end in 2003 and is set to be rebooted with a new film featuring a brand new vampire slayer, and without any input from former lead writer Joss Whedon.

Hannigan is adamant none of the main castmembers would sign up for the project unless Whedon was in charge, and she fears movie bosses are heading for a flop.

She tells Cinemablend, "It's a big mistake. I mean if Joss isn't involved, it's only the title. (I wouldn't go back) not without Joss. Joss is the only reason that we would go back. I mean, it's just ridiculous to think of that TV show without Joss. That's just silly to me... And all the fans know that, too, so I don't know what they're thinking."

Hannigan's former Buffy co-star Anthony Head has also condemned plans for a second big-screen outing, previously stating the new film will be like "watching a car wreck." (LR/WNWCMVH/ZN)
