Josh Hartnett's West End debut in the stage adaptation of Rain Man has been met with mixed reviews.

The Hollywood actor began his stint at the Apollo Theater in London on Friday (19Sep08), starring in the new play based on the 1988 Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise film, after a series of problems pushed back his debut.

And Hartnett has received mainly glowing reports for his portrayal of Charlie Babbitt, who discovers he has an autistic brother.

One critic says that Hartnett is "as charismatic on stage as screen," with another saying that the character is "beautifully played" by the actor. However, not everyone is impressed with another critic describing the star as "merely competent". (CL/WNE/LJ)
