Helena Bonham Carter Earns CBE From The Queen

Even non-British folk like myself believe getting an award from the Queen like the Commander of the British Empire is outstanding. They come around every year, but this year’s list features an unexpected name, who also happens to be a very lovely lady. Possibly after her turn playing Queen Elizabeth in The King’s Speech last year, Helena Bonham Carter is one of those special people celebrated on the Queen’s New Year Honors List.
After the Oscar snub – I guess Melissa Leo really did earn that one, crazy lady that she is – I’m really happy to see Bonham Carter earn a title that is far cooler than any old Oscar. In fact, Bonham Carter was one of the very few awarded with a CBE, that is a Commander of the Order of the British Empire. This year’s list, published on December 31, also features a few other recipients. According to THR, comedian Ronnie Corbett, Australian writer Clive James, Oasis’ Liam Gallagher, record producer Steve Lillywhite, and Who Wants to Be A Millionaire creator Paul Smith all nabbed one.
Of course the list also makes special mention of MBE’s, or Member of the Order of the British Empire, as well as knighthoods, which may be the nicest-sounding title of all and which exclusively went to Big Brother’s Peter Bazalgette in the entertainment field this time around. The list goes out twice a year, around the New Year and on the Queen’s birthday. Pop Blend will see you back in June for the next go-around. Who knows, maybe sometime you’ll even be so lucky.
