Sir Anthony Hopkins played a fiendish prank on a group of homeless men during a Silence of the Lambs screening - by spooking them with a reprisal of his role as Hannibal Lecter.

The Welsh star won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1992 for his chilling portrayal of the flesh-eating serial killer in the hit 1991 thriller. He later battled booze demons and took on voluntary work at Los Angeles-based homeless charity Midnight Mission in 2002 after the organization's managing director, Clancy Imislund, urged Hopkins to help others as part of his recovery.

And Imislund reveals the fun-loving actor once played a creepy practical joke during one of the charity's regular movie nights. Imislund says, "It's funny. We have film nights here and one time we showed Silence of the Lambs. So as a surprise I asked Tony to come down and tap a few people on the shoulder at the end and say 'Hello' in that voice he does. You should have seen their faces. They were like, 'Arrggh!' He got a real kick out of that." (ZN/WNTEX/CL)
