The East Coast is some nine hours away from 2012, and the final preparations are being putting on New Yearís parties. The finger foods are being baked, the driving arrangements are being settled and a whole lot of booze is being purchased. That last item is of particular importance since how much one drinks on New Yearís Eve can often directly dictate what kind of time he or she has. Sip a cocktail and a glass of champagne, and itíll probably be a relaxing and good-natured occasion filled with lots of conversation. Start pounding the shots at nine PM, and itíll probably end up being a raucous and perhaps debaucherous evening.

Thatís the great thing about New Yearís Eve. Thereís no internationally recognized way to celebrate it. Without family party obligations or long-standing traditions, people are free to chart their own courses with whomever they so choose. As for me personally, Iím a two drinks kind of guy, at least now. In my younger days, I celebrated New Yearís aggressively, with a middle finger to how Iíd feel waking up the next morning, but nowadays, I take it slower and retain my ability to drive. Thatís just my preference though. I want to know what you do.

How many drinks do you typically consume on New Yearís? Do you go balls deep until you fall into bed? Do you find your tipsy point and try to maintain, or do you stay away from alcohol altogether? Let us know by voting in the poll belowÖ
