How Many Times Will Eddie Murphy Get Bleeped As Host Of The Oscars?

Once upon a time, Eddie Murphy was about as filthy and raw as you could get. With a brash, fast-talking routine, he turned even the most monotonous facets of life into viciously funny, f-bomb filled rants. In fact, the comedian’s 1983 stand-up special Delirious is notable not only for how influential it was within the industry but also for its more than two hundred uses of the word “fuck”.

Within a decade though, Murphy had completely redefined himself, at least to middle America, as the star of mildly racy PG-13 comedies like The Nutty Professor and Bowfinger. More family-friendly efforts like Shrek and Daddy Day Care soon followed. Now the comedian has been tapped to host this year’s Academy Awards, leaving fans without the slightest idea of what to expect.

Co-producer Brett Ratner has publicly stated this year’s ceremony will be just as family-friendly as ever, but the Oscars are known for nothing if not live swears, live streaking and live confusion. Murphy got his break crushing on Saturday Night Live; so, he’s very familiar with biting his tongue in the name of censors. Does that mean he will? The jury is still out.

Eddie Murphy has taken more than his share of media beatings over the past fifteen years, but even most of the more savage indictments never really took aim at the comedian’s talent. With good reason. Eddie Murphy is still more than capable of bringing the funny. He just needs a forum where he can talk, as opposed to one that inhibits his hysterical ramblings. The Academy Awards will provide that vehicle.

I think Eddie Murphy is going to be one of the best Oscar hosts we’ve seen in decades. I’m just not sure how blue he’ll choose to go. What do you think? How many times do you expect the Beverly Hills Cop star to get bleeped? Sound off by voting in the poll below…
