Idol Winner Cashing In On Short-lived CrazeAuthor: Scott Gwin

It seems Taylor Hicks, the most recent winner of American Idol, is all too aware of how fleeting his stardom is likely to be. After all, with the exception of Kelly Clarkson, how many other finalists in the show have managed to hold on to the limelight? To cash in on his likely short-lived celebrity, Hicks has agreed to be paid to let someone else write his memoirs for him now while his life story is still of interest to the masses.
According to People Online, Hicks, 29, will have his lifetime of valuable memories (all whopping 29 years of them) written down by David Wild, a writer who occasionally gets published in Rolling Stone. To be titled "Heart Full of Soul", the book will follow Hicks' road from singing in Alabama clubs to getting lucky on a TV competition. His post-Idol single may have flown off the shelves, but I doubt he'll have such success with the book. Since it won't be in stores until Spring 2007, I would guess his fans will be too busy watching the next round of American Idol auditions to read the memoir of "that guy from last year". But it doesn't matter, because Hicks will be laughing his way the bank. He's reportedly received a $750,000 cash advance. |
