Jazz Great Hubbard Dies At 70

Grammy-winning jazz musician Freddie Hubbard has died, aged 70.

Hubbard, a celebrated trumpeter whose style has inspired generations of horn players, died on Monday (29Dec08) at Sherman Oaks Hospital in Los Angeles, his manager David Weiss has confirmed.

The musician had been hospitalized since suffering a heart attack last month (Nov08).

Hubbard won a Grammy in 1972 for best jazz performance by a group for his album, First Light. His last concert was in June (08) in New York at a party celebrating the release of his final album.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Briggie Hubbard, and their son Duane. (JMA/WNWA/ZN)
