Late TV legend Johhny Carson has topped an extensive new poll of U.S. television icons.

The former The Tonight Show host beat comedienne Lucille Ball, Oprah Winfrey and Bill Cosby to top Entertainment Weekly magazine's 50 Greatest TV Icons list.

The top 10 is:
