Well, I didn’t see this hullabaloo coming. The CIA just released the names of some twenty-four thousand former spies, on purpose--not Valerie Pflame-like slip-ups, and among the surreptitious workers were famed celebrity chef Julia Child, Police drummer Stewart Copeland’s father Miles, and Chicago White Sox catcher Moe Berg. This just further proves we will never know what the government is up to.

According to The Associated Press, the celebrities along with the thousands of other everyday citizens worked to stir resistance and create propaganda. Not exactly like crawling through fox holes behind enemy lines but still an honorable and important service.

The espionage service fell under the moniker Office Of Strategic Services, a government branch created by Franklin Delano Roosevelt, which included both his sons and the offspring of Ernest Hemingway. Anyone know when the reunion might be? Because I would love to hear some of those stories.

Not among the noted spies was game show host Chuck Barris, who famously penned an unauthorized autobiography called Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind, which claimed he was a CIA hitman.
