On Wednesday night, glam metal bands Kiss and Mötley Crüe performed in Denver, Colorado. The concert was part of their current North American tour, but the two bands used the opportunity to address the Aurora, Colorado shooting tragedy that occured just a few weeks ago. During the concert, the two bands announced they would pledge money to the Aurora Victim Relief Fund as a show of good faith, hoping other bands with means would follow suit.
The Aurora Victim Relief Fund was set up in the days after James Holmes cut loose in a Dark Knight Rises screening, raining bullets on innocent moviegoers. In the aftermath, 12 people were found dead and dozens and dozens more were taken to the hospital after sustaining injuries. In the weeks following the July 20th shooting, millions of dollars have been donated to help Aurora victims in need.
According to NME, the contribution from the two rock bands is substantial—together they have pledged $100,000 to the fund. Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx spoke of compassion when discussing the donation.
“Following the heartbreaking news of the senseless shootings in Colorado we wanted to do something to help the families and victims. We bonded together with our tour partners and friends Kiss to donate money, but we also hope it inspires others to do the same, no matter how big or small.”
