We're still a couple of weeks away from the arrival of Taylor Swift's next studio album, but a number of singles have already released ahead of Red's October 22 release date. The latest single, "I Knew You Were Trouble" and once again has Swift reflecting on a relationship gone wrong. Listen to the song ahead!
"I Knew You Were Trouble" follows in the footsteps of previously released tracks "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," "Red" and "Begin Again" from Swift's upcoming album "Red." Of the mentioned singles, "Trouble" probably leans more toward "We Are Never" in its upbeat pop sound, bringing a peppy tone to contrast with its emotional lyrics. The song released today and is already #1 on iTunes top singles.
"And the saddest fear, comes creeping in, that you never loved me, or her, or anyone, or anything, yeah."
Words like that sound like they could go with a slower song (minus the "yeah" scream at the end), and I could actually see Swift doing a slowed-down acoustic version of this someday. But she definitely makes it work here in this pop-rock take. Maybe not quite as catchy as "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," but few songs probably are. Still, it's catchy nonetheless.
"I Knew You Were Trouble" was written by Swift along with Max Martin and Shellback, who've collaborated on numerous hits including Pink's "Fuckin' Perfect," "So What" and "Raise Your Glass."
