Miley Cyrus Says She Didn't Even Like Think About Her VMAs Performance

In the ten days or so since Miley Cyrus walked out on the MTV Video Music Awards stage and did questionable things with a foam finger, the starlet’s actions have been dissected from damn near every angle. Some observers have called her a whore, others have called her a feminist. Some have demanded an apology, others are hoping she’ll go further next time. Pretty much everyone seems to agree she needed less tongue. From Miley’s perspective, however, the people of the world are severely overthinking the situation.

A few days after the mad house, Miley sat down for an interview with the crew of a previously scheduled documentary. This morning, said crew decided to pass along some of the quotes to MTV, and to say the least, they’re a pretty interesting window into the former child star’s mind…

"What's amazing is I think now, we're three days later and people are still talking about it. They're over thinking it. You're thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it. Like, I didn't even think about it 'cause that's just me. I don't pay attention to the negative because I've seen this play out so many times. How many times have we seen this play out in pop music? Madonna's done it. Britney's done it. Every VMA performance, that's what you're looking for; you're wanting to make history."

Miley certainly isn’t the first celebrity to talk out of both sides of her mouth during an interview, but all the contradictions throughout her chat are especially notable. She seems to want to paint herself as a woman willing to push to the edge in order to offer up a memorable and lasting VMAs performance, and yet, she’s unwilling to admit she put a ton of thought into how to plunge as far over the line as possible without getting censored. She sounds a lot like Britney Spears following “Baby One More Time” when she was completely unwilling to admit she was intentionally using sex appeal.

I wouldn’t expect Miley to comment a whole lot more about her performance now that these quotes are out. If you want to take another look at the craziness, you can watch her performance below…
