One Track Sunday: Britney Spears And will.i.am Scream & Shout
Britney Spears has turned 31 today, but her birthday is just the icing on the cake of a pretty spiffy year. Miss Spears has had a lot to celebrate in 2012. She’s spent the year engaged to Jason Trawick, she defeated her former manager in court, and she nabbed a judging gig on Fox’s hit show, The X Factor. Speaking of the latter, during Thursday’s show, the songstress released a video with will.i.am called “Scream & Shout.”
The track is the third single off of will.i.am’s upcoming fourth studio album, #willpower (mind the hashtag). It’s a song that finds its main strength in vocal repetition—although I especially appreciate the line “It’s Britney, bitch” which first appeared on Spears’ epic Blackout Album. The video itself features dancing and a little bit of technology integration with computers and cameras popping up onscreen (product placement!). Mostly, however, it focuses on multiples copies of will.i.am and Spears moving across the screen. The clone-based video is so strange, Spears seemed a little abashed when it premiered during Fox’s hit singing competition show.
Maybe she just doesn’t like all of the added attention, or then again, maybe she just knew it wasn’t the greatest video the world has every proffered to music fans. At the end of the day, will.i.am’s fourth studio effort has dealt with numerous delays, and fans should be happy it's finally coming together. Spears is not the only collaborator on #willpower, which also includes Alicia Keyes, David Guetta, Jennifer Lopez, Demi Lovator, Justin Bieber and many, many more. The extensive effort will hit homes on February 4, 2013.
