One Track Sunday: Taylor Swift Releases Red Single
By Jessica Rawden 2013-07-07 13:23:20
This week, Taylor Swift released the video for her single, “Red,” the namesake of the singer’s most recent album and also the fifth single off of that album. In her new video, Swift takes fans with her onto the stage, showing us her perspective of the audience while performing and taking us through dozens of costume changes during the course of the 4-minute video.
The editing in the “Red” video is actually pretty incredible, with Swift changing costumes and dance moves without missing a beat and without the video ever looking bizarre. The video is also a fitting tribute to Swift and her incredible crew, who have embarked on a major tour with few days off over the past several months (and into the months to come). The tour began in March and is expected to run through September, with additional dates set overseas in November and December of 2013. The video highlights some of the decadence of the stage show, as well as the hard work that goes into putting together a show like the Red Tour.
Taylor Swift’s album Red has been in the limelight for a while, thanks to selling well over a million copies when it was released in October. In addition to the album’s wide initial success, the young woman has produced four singles off of the album before this video, including “22” as well as “We are Never Ever Getting Back Together.”
Her latest video was dropped earlier this week, to coincide with the 4th of July holiday. Swift also took to Twitter to talk about the release of the single.
It may not take as much effort to shoot a music video based on concert footage than it does to create a video from scratch, but in some ways, getting up close and personal with a stage show is a great thing for fans, and especially for fans who cannot afford to attend Swift's expensive shows. If you are a Taylor Swift fan and you haven’t already nabbed a copy of Red, you can get the album and the single over at iTunes, now. Additionally, a list of the remainder of Swift’s tour dates is available via the singer’s site.
