One Track Sunday: Vampire Weekend Mocks The Last Supper In New Video
I’m not really sure what to think about Vampire Weekend’s latest music video for the track “Diane Young,” a fun and rambunctious song which features a slew of sort-of famous faces, at least if you really spend a lot of time delving into the world of music. The “Last Supper”-themed video offers an oddball party atmosphere filled with confetti and featuring appearances by Santigold, Chromeo, and Sky Ferreira (Rolling Stone is reporting Walkmen frontman Hamilton Leithauser and Dave Longstreth of Dirty Projectors are also involved). Don’t count my word for it, though. Check out the video for yourself, above.
“Diane Young” is actually the lead single off of Vampire Weekend’s third and newest album, Modern Vampires of the City, which has done well on the charts and even debuted at #1 on Billboard's album chart. It’s also the first music video I’ve seen to use a saxophone as a piece, which may be even more impressive, and certainly is inventive. The above image doesn’t have much to do with Da Vinci’s famous painting, but it does its own thing.
Modern Vampires of the City dropped on May 14 and has been doing well ever since. You can order the track or the album over at iTunes. Additionally, the band recently played Coachella and has plans to perform at other festivals over the summer.
