Photos From The 13th Annual Provincetown International Film Festival Awards Ceremony
Now that’s a town hall meeting: the Provincetown International Film Festival congregated in the city’s historic town hall just a block away from the Massachusetts Bay this past Saturday. Just as the sun was setting outside, the awards ceremony brought together luminaries from the directing, acting, and scholarly professions. Many in the audience were locals from the Cape, curious to see which celebrities had been imported into their seaport.
The honorees this year included Darren Aronofsky, Vera Farmiga, and Albert Maysles. Aronofsky was given the Emerging Filmmaker Award in recognition for his provocative works like Black Swan, The Wrestler, and yes, even the The Fountain, which he claimed to be his favorite film. Vera Farmiga received recognition for her acting and many cheers for her first foray into directing, Higher Ground . Albert Maysles, best known as part of the Maysles brothers team that brought the stories of Grey Gardens and Gimme Shelter to theaters, was given a Career Achievement Award for his vast body of work. The awards were in the shape of the town’s signature statue, the Pilgrim Monument.
Check out the recipients, the discussions, and John Waters with a bicycle below:
Albert Maysles talked with Anne Sundberg, director of Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work, about his career and took questions from the audience. Their picture together is above. The following picture is of Albert Maysles and Darren Aronofsky, having a quick word before the ceremonies.
He really enjoyed his audience.
Vera Farmiga and cultural critic B. Ruby Rich talked about acting and tackling the director’s chair for the first time.
