From London today CNN reports the World's Most Eligible Bachelor, Prince William of Wales, upped his sexiness quotient when he gained access to a share of his late mother's multi-million pound trust.
According to the terms of her will, the late Diana, Princess of Wales, entitled her sons William and Prince Harry to share in half her assets once they turn 30. At age 25, however, they gain control of the interest and other income earned on the $13 million (US) fortune left when Diana died in a car crash in 1997. Today, William will take control of approximately $500,000 (US) a year. Prince Harry, who is only 22, will continue to clip coupons and live off his older brother's largess until he comes of age and inherits an equal amount. The two brothers are second lieutenants in the British Army and earn approximately $44,000 US per year. Their father, the heir presumptive Prince Charles, also gives them pub money and pays for their other expenses and accommodations. Spokespeople from Clarence House, where Prince William resides, would not speculate on what he will do with the money. It is noted that the prince's every move will be watched and commented on. Says Royal watcher Richard Fitzwilliams. "This really is the goldfish bowl… he's really got to watch what he does, when he does it. There are certain things his advisers can do but the future does beckon, in the sense that he's the Windsors' trump card. He's very popular."" The brothers both graduated from Sandhurst Royal Military Academy, Harry two years ahead of William. At present, William is training to become a Reconnaissance Troop Commander although it is unlikely he will ever see battle. A few weeks ago, brother Harry was prepared to do a tour in Iraq but the decision was soon overruled once Iraqi militia forces made his capture and death a Number One priority. In addition to the inheritance, William now gains another independence: at age 25 he no longer needs the permission of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, in order to marry. It may come in handy down the road since he and long-time girlfriend Kate Middleton ended their affair in April. Now he is free to flounce whatever pretty lass catches his randy eye. Ahoy ladies! The golden fleet has come ashore! |
