The Situation To Endorse Tanning SalonsAuthor: Mack Rawden

Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is having a good week. On Thursday, the return of Jersey Shore put up record numbers, and now he's just landed a new endorsement deal worth six figures. The agreement is with an upstart tanning salon, and beyond the base compensation, Sorrentino's company MPS Entertainment will also acquire a stake in the business. If that's not a pretty damn good situation, I don't know what is.
According to TMZ, the place is called Boca Tanning Club, and the former Dancing With The Stars contestant is already planning to expand. He's preparing to open at least four over the next few months in New Jersey and will even use many of his friends and family members to staff the locations. Over the past few years, Jersey Shore has come to define everything wrong with television for many aghast onlookers. I couldn't disagree more. For something to truly embody all that's awful about a medium, it needs to do whatever it does worse or at least at the same level as its competitors. There are dozens of non-competition reality shows on television. Most people watch them to see drama, fighting and skuzzy behavior. The cast members of Jersey Shore cause a scene better than any of their competitors, and many have done an incredibly good job branding their images into lucrative returns. Pauly D just toured with Britney Spears, Snooki continues to make appearances across the country and JWoww somehow duped me into following her on Twitter. The Situation definitely doesn't have enough sway to convince me tanning is a good idea, but for those that are down with darkening their bodies, something tells me plenty would be more than willing to do it at a Sorrentino-run establishment. |
