Lindsay Lohan is reportedly a lesbian or maybe bi-sexual or maybe just bi-curious. Whatever she is, she’s said to be currently dating Samantha Ronson, and I couldn’t be happier for her. You see: the whole point of romantically seeing someone (other than the guaranteed sex) is that they balance you out. Sadly, all too often both celebrities and hapless nobodies involve themselves with out-of-control catalysts who simply spur on more reckless behavior. I call it the Charlie Starkweather/ Caril Ann Fugate phenomenon, but you might prefer Sid & Nancy syndrome. Either way, it’s some average alliteration and troublesome trivia.

But Samantha Ronson seems to be having the opposite effect. Reliable and centered, she escorts Lindsay to photo shoots, screenings, and even recently defended Lindsay’s little sister against tabloid rumors. Sounds like a perfect girlfriend to me. And beyond all that, Lindsay actually looks happy. The woozy, glazed-over eyes of an unreasonable party girl are gone, replaced with the adoring, tender ones of a doting girlfriend.

I have no idea if these two will make it in the long run, but this is certainly, unequivocally a step in the right direction, regardless of what ass whip conservative idiots might tell you. Lindsay Lohan is a good actress and a good train wreck. She can only be one of those at a time, and I’m glad, with Samantha’s help, she’s nixed the two A.M. coke lines for eleven P.M. snuggles.
