Tina Fey Welcomes Second Daughter

Tina Fey was never cut out to be famous which is precisely why the forty-one year old remains so likeable. Apart from writing, producing and starring in the funniest comedy on television, 30 Rock's leading lady is also the mother to a five year old daughter named Alice. That's right. An A-list celebrity actually gave her child a name that's used by the common folk. What is there not to love?
On Wednesday, Fey and her husband Jeffrey Richmond welcomed their second daughter, a healthy baby christened Penelope Athena. According to People, the couple waited until the birth to find out the gender, but seeing as how the recent arrival has already been named, one can assume they had choices picked out for both sexes.
I'm a big thumbs up on Richmond and Fey's name choice. Turning to mythology, like The Bible, can be dicey both in length and pronunciation but the pair kept it within the bounds of normalcy. As you may know, Penelope was Odysseus' wife, and Athena was the daughter of Zeus and goddess of wisdom. In my younger days, I always wanted to have a daughter and name her Isis after the Egyptian goddess of magic and motherhood, but I've been told by my fiancée at least fifty times that this name is apparently stupid and will never happen.
30 Rock returns this fall for its sixth season. No word on whether Fey and Richmond scheduled their baby-making efforts to coordinate with a convenient summer birth, but considering the actress recently told Oprah she made the decision to prioritize family over work, I would doubt it. Plus, math is hard.
Pop Blend would like to send out our congratulations and best wishes to the family. May the little girl grow up to be as funny, charming and perhaps most importantly, sensible as her mother.
