I saw Thomas and Nancy Beatie on the Oprah show in April, and it was amazing how much Thomas Beatie really looked like a man- a pregnant man, but a man. Beatie and his wife spoke on the show about their struggle with getting a doctor to agree to the artificial insemination, and the eventual pregnancy that followed- including an inside look at the couple’s ultrasound.

Well, now the couple is back in the news as Thomas, formerly Tracy Beatie, gave birth to a baby girl at a hospital in Oregon Thursday according to People magazine. Beatie conceived the child through artificial insemination using his own eggs, because his 46 year-old wife, Nancy, has already had a hysterectomy and two children of her own.

Beatie, who had his breasts removed, was quoted in People stating, “The only thing different about me is that I can’t breastfeed my baby, but a lot of mothers don’t.” The only thing? I’m pretty sure that fuzzy beard on your chin and the fact that you are legally married to your wife as a man are more different than the fact you can’t breastfeed your daughter! But other than that, yeah…totally normal.
