A joyous LMFAO concert turned scary in a hurry last night when the venue caught on fire. The incident occurred at the Coliseo Nacional de Ingenieros in Honduras where the popular group was playing to a sold out crowd. Part way through the gig, they were reportedly told to exit the stage, and upon returning to their dressing room, the guys saw smoke and left in a hurry.
Following the misadventure, Redfoo took to his Twitter to joke about setting “the place on fire”, but his enthusiasm was quickly muted after it was discovered fifteen people had to be treated for smoke inhalation. Thankfully, no one died in the blaze, but according to TMZ, the whole thing might have been intentional. Honduran authorities are reportedly speculating someone may have tampered with the electrical system, but the arson investigation is still ongoing.
Of course, all concert fires immediately conjure up memories of the 2003 disaster at The Station during a Great White concert. That tragedy took 100 lives and left an entire Rhode Island town devastated. Thankfully, Honduras doesn’t seem to be dealing with a mess anywhere near that life altering.
According to MTV, LMFAO is planning to press on and will play a previously scheduled New Year’s Eve gig in Las Vegas. That’s probably for the best. As none of the injuries to the concergoers seem to be of the serious variety, there doesn’t seem to be any reason to cancel a gig. Let’s hope this time, the group actually finishes its set.
