Watch Rapper DMX Belt Out Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer
By Mack Rawden 3 years ago
DMX might be best known for his straight ahead, aggressive rap songs, but deep down, he’s got a soft heart or at least a love deep love for Christmas. During a recent appearance at the radio station Power 105.1, he was handed some lyrics and asked to sing “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer”. Shocking everyone, he discarded the paper, said he already knew all of the words and busted into an original rendition.
Fortunately for humanity, the impromptu rendition done in his typical gruff style was recorded and uploaded to YouTube yesterday. It has since been racing around the Internet, and it’s easy to see why. You can check out the cover below…
In order for any cover to work, an artist really needs to fully invest in the song and belt it out like they mean it. Going through the motions doesn’t suit anyone. Luckily, DMX doesn’t do that. You can tell he loved this song as a kid, and even though he doesn’t sing it the way we’re used to, there’s still some Christmas magic down there somewhere.
Plus, it’s always nice to see contrasting styles come face to face. DMX singing “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer” is basically a strange spin on children saying inappropriate words for comedic value in movies. Truth be told, I actually like this better.
Here’s to hoping this is the first of many wonderful holiday-themed videos.
