Watch Will Smith Bust Out Some Summertime Lyrics During His Late Show Visit
You know how sometimes you hear a song and you just have to sing along? Well, based on Smith's behavior in the above clip from last night's episode of Late Show, that happens to him when he hears "Summertime." Will Smith wasn't scheduled to perform on Late Show with David Letterman last night, but his appearance - and more specifically his arrival - led to an impromptu performance by the actor when he was brought out on stage to Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra's instrumental rendition of Smith's 1992 hit "Summertime."
EW shared the video above, which shows Smith's introduction onto the stage of Late Show, during which he couldn't seem to help himself from singing along to his own song. That led to him heading over to the orchestra to take the mic and rap a verse of the fittingly timed tune. It's a fun little seemingly unplanned segment, and an entertaining one for those of us who love Smith and were big fans of his music during his Fresh Prince days.
Smith's appearance on Letterman adds a bit more buzz for the actor/musician in anticipation of the upcoming release of After Earth, the sci-fi action film from M. Night Shyamalan, which has Smith re-teaming with his son (and Pursuit of Happiness co-star) Jaden Smith. The film arrives in theaters next Friday (May 31).
The amusing segment on Letterman follows another funny video, which recently went viral, and shows Smith and his son on The Ellen Degeneres Show.
