Microsoft has revealed the total sales for the Xbox One. Gamers bought over 2 million consoles since its launch on November 22nd, or roughly 111,111 units per day.

WAS THAT MORE OR LESS THAN THE PS4 SOLD, PETE?

I'll get to that in a second.

The Xbox One launched in 13 countries: Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Spain, United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand. Over 10,000 retailers opened at midnight to begin selling XB1 units. There were also a few enormous launch parties, including a Macklemore Concert at Times Square.

Microsoft had planned to release the console in eight more countries on that date but was forced to push the release date back to 2014. The Asian launch is scheduled for next year as well.

Microsoft provided all sorts of other fun facts to accompany the press release. New Xbox One owners have spent over 83 million hours in games, television and apps on the console since launch. They've earned 39 million Xbox One Achievements and 595 Gamerscore Points in the process.

"Demand is exceeding supply in our 13 launch markets and Xbox One is sold out at most retailers. We’re also particularly excited to see consumers engaging in a wide range of games and entertainment experiences on the platform, with more than 1 million paid transactions on Xbox Live to date," said Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of strategy and marketing for Xbox.

The Xbox One launched with 22 games, ranging from AAA exclusives like Forza Motorsport 5 and Ryse to downloadable titles like Killer Instinct and LocoCycle. Microsoft didn't mention how software sales were doing. I'm personally curious which launch title ended up being the top choice.

PLEASE. I MUST KNOW HOW THE XBOX ONE SALES STACK UP TO THE PS4's.

Why?

I NEED TO WIN AN ARGUMENT IN A FORUM THREAD.

Alright, fair enough. Well, as of December 3rd, the PS4 had sold over 2.1 million units.

YESSSSSSSS VICTORY IS MI -

I mean, it's more complicated than that, though. The PS4 debuted in North America a week earlier than the Xbox One. Plus, as of November 29th, the PS4 is available in about twice as many countries as the other console. You can't really get a fair global comparison of sales between the two consoles yet.

JUST TELL ME WHO WON.

Let's at least wait until the consoles are available in the same countries, aren't in short supply and get more substantial software lineups. So, uh, late 2014?

AND THEN? THEN WE CAN FIND OUT WHO WON?

Probably not. More likely we're just gonna argue about this for five or six more years until we trade these consoles in for some other black boxes with equally dull names.

SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN.
