Yves Saint Lauren Passes

Reclusive and visionary fashion designer Yves Saint Lauren passed away this evening at the age of seventy-one. Retired for the last half decade, the anointed King of Fashion spent most of those years in Morocco, living it up after selling his fashion house for six hundred million dollars. Not too bad for a former officer in the French miliary.

According to The New York Daily News, longtime partner Pierre Berge was at his bedside when he died after several months of failing health. Among the many legacies Lauren left behind were women’s tuxedo pant suits, safari jackets, and of course, peasant smocks.

We here at Cinema Blend send out our thoughts to Pierre Berge and the rest of Yves Saint Lauren’s family, along with all of the millions of fashion fans stunned by this loss. There’s no way of knowing how different the current pop culture landscape would have been had Christian Dior chosen another successor, but without a doubt, the world would have been a little less vibrant. We’ll miss you, Yves.
