Alec Baldwin Jokes About Photographer Incident With Letterman

Alec Baldwin is a strange guy. With a hot temper and a willingness to confront problems, he’s been the subject of negative tabloid stories for more than a decade. In the last year, he’s been booted from a plane for refusing to turn off Words With Friends, called an asshole by baristas at Starbucks and accused of punching a photographer just minutes after getting his marriage license. Given all that, you would think he’d be a cold man, but like the legendarily short fused Keith Olbermann, he’s one of the best interviews on television. In fact, he always comes off as engaging and personable whenever he stops by a late night show.

Last night’s Letterman was a great example of that. With a playful wit and a willingness to speak freely, he conversed about the incident with the photographer earlier this week and made a few wonderful jokes about what happened. You’ve gotta love someone willing to openly speculate about what it looks like he’s about to say in a tabloid photo. In this case, it's a word that begins with "f". People always wonder why celebrities who are reportedly hard to work with continue to find jobs. Well, in Baldwin’s case, there seems to be two reasons. 1) He’s incredibly talented. 2) He clearly isn’t hard to work with all the time. When he wants to lay on the charm, Baldwin can lay it on thick, and it’s clear from the above interview, he and Letterman actually get along quite well. I don’t know what happened with the photographer. It seems unlikely Alec hurt the man enough to warrant a trip to the hospital, but regardless of what actually went down, it seems clear he’ll keep on smiling, at least until the next time he has a high profile run-in with a cameraman, a waiter or another random person he’d be better served to just ignore.
