There was a flurry of news this weekend over the possibility that actress Alyson Hannigan might be pregnant. The root of this story was a photo of Hannigan, enjoying an evening out with husband Alexis Denisof and their daughter. Hannigan held what looks like a plastic sword in one hand, and a small plastic fish tank in the other, the items likely won in the carnival shown in the background. (Either that, or we should assume she bested someone in a duel and stole their fish.) Hannigan is wearing a jacket over a shirt that reveals what some took to be a baby bump and so began the rumors, which Hannigan has now debunked.

In response to the articles reporting her possible pregnancy, the How I Met Your Mother star tweeted:

NO, I'm not pregnant! I just ate too much carnival food, that time of the month, hurt my back & couldn't suck my gut in, & need 2 do cardio!

She went on to tweet, “And I'm NEVER gonna wear that shirt again!!!”

Kudos to Hannigan for having a sense of humor about the whole thing. On a related note, is it too much to hope this’ll be the last time tabloids will jump to this conclusion without getting confirmation first? It’s one thing to note a pregnancy when the celebrity steps out onto the red carpet proudly showing off a visible and obvious baby bump (See Beyonce’s recent appearance at the VMA’s). It’s another to jump to that conclusion based on a photo alone.
