Ben Affleck Accepts Challenge To Live Below Poverty Line
Thanks to Argo’s win for Best Picture at the Academy Awards and some exciting news on the homefront, Ben Affleck has done a lot of celebrating over the past few years. For an upcoming week; however, he’ll be doing some struggling, all in the name of a good cause.
As part of the Global Poverty Project’s challenge to live below the poverty line, the acclaimed actor/ director will eat on $1.50 a day or less. That is the extreme poverty line in the United States, and when you consider the rest of the world as well, more than one billion people live below that line on a regular basis.
Other actors such as Hugh Jackman and Tom Hiddleston have taken on the challenge before, and they’ve survived on things like baked potatoes, omelets and rice. Hopefully, Affleck will give his followers a blow-by-blow update of exactly what he’s consuming and how he’s holding up mentally. More importantly, he'll hopefully raise a lot of money in the process too.
Once upon a time, Affleck was considered by many to be Matt Damon’s friend. His contribution to the Good Will Hunting script was largely minimized, and he got more attention for his personal life than anything else. Over the last few years, however, that’s really started to change. He’s gravitating toward far more serious projects, and when he speaks, people tend to listen. Consequently, it wouldn’t be a big surprise if quite a few followers took on this challenge, as well.
We’ll keep you updated. Until then, appreciate what you’ve got.
