Former Culture Club frontman Boy George is celebrating after prison officials removed his electronic tag - declaring himself a "free" man. The singer, real name George O'Dowd, was jailed in January (09) for the false imprisonment and assault of male escort Audun Carlsen in 2007.

The 47 year old was granted early release for good behavior in May (09) but was fitted with an ankle monitoring tag and forced to adhere to a curfew. But officials removed the tag on Monday (31Aug09) and O'Dowd invited his whole family to his house to celebrate his "detagging."

He posted pictures of the event on his Twitter.com page and wrote, "In the words of (British actor) John Inman 'I'm free!' Me and the whole family celebrating in the kitchen, so sweet for my mum and sister to come for the un-tagging! I'm so excited to just be able to work!" (LR/WNTWT/KD)
