Carlos Santana Criticizes New Georgia Legislation That He Calls RacistAuthor: Joseph Giannone

Carlos Santana is a legendary guitarist who's always been ahead of the curve with music, deliberately blowing people’s minds with his guitar riffs, but he’s also ahead of America too. The Mexican "Black Magic Woman" hit-maker is criticizing Georgia Governor Nathan Deal for instating a new law, which he deems “anti-American.” To make matters more interesting, he does it after he receives the Beacon of Change Award in Atlanta on Sunday, May 15th.
The rock star spoke out against the controversial legislation, which gives police officers the authority to check the immigration status of anyone suspected of being in the country illegally, during his award ceremony. Even though a similar law was passed in Arizona last year, Santana is speaking out against this one, making his point very clear: "I represent the human race... The people of Arizona, and the people of Atlanta, Georgia, you should be ashamed of yourselves.” Whether or not you agree with this law, it’s refreshing to see that at least one celebrity is speaking out against this (obviously) racist legislation, just passed on Friday, May 13th. After the awards ceremony, which was held at a Civil Rights baseball game in Atlanta, Santana continues to explain his outrage at a press conference: It's an anti-American law... It's a cruel law, actually. This is about fear. Stop shucking and jiving. People are afraid we're going to steal your job. No we aren't. You're not going to change sheets and clean toilets. This is the United States. This is the land of the free. If people want the immigration laws to keep passing, then everybody should get out and leave the American Indians here. What do you think about the new legislation, and how Santana criticized it? |
