Veteran rocker Eric Clapton is embracing new technology - he used his cellphone to record new songs for his band to learn. The Wonderful Tonight singer/guitarist was creating tracks for his new album, Clapton, when he fell ill with gallstones and was unable to attend rehearsals and jam sessions while he recovered from surgery.

His fellow musicians working on the album were desperate to carry on - so Clapton recorded his parts on an MP3 file on his phone and sent it to the studio.

He tells Uncut magazine, "(My collaborators) said, 'We need to know what Eric's going to do'. So I had to make an MP3 with my phone of me playing guitar and they played that back over the speakers in the studio and played to it. Extraordinary stuff." (ZN/NCM/LR)
