Earlier tonight, Bruce Springsteen eulogized his good friend and band mate Clarence Clemons. Arguably one of the greatest saxophonists ever to blow, Clemons left an indelible mark both on all of the E Street albums and the generation of impressionable musicians who followed in his wake. Music fans the world over have spent the week grieving and writing obituaries, but it’s about time we stopped slumping our shoulders and started celebrating a life well lived.
God, could Clarence Clemons play the saxophone. With an infectious grin and a confident swagger, he’d strut to the center of the stage and let it rip, pleasing not only himself but the rest of his band and the thousands of excited fans in attendance. As a group with the E Street Band and as a solo artist heavily influenced by and collaborating with the group, Bruce Springsteen released a dozen or so brilliant albums and hundreds of memorable songs. It’s a true testament the E Street Band’s quality that you could ask ten different people for their favorite song, and you’d likely get six or seven different answers. What’s your favorite Springsteen song? Tell us by voting in the poll below or leave a comment to include a different choice.
