Daniel Radcliffe Filmed Harry Potter Scenes Drunk

It’s been public knowledge for awhile that Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe went through a bit of a drinking phase, but until now, the actor has been vague in discussing the specifics and always clear to point out he’s given up the bottle. Now he’s finally offered a few details, and the specifics are certainly worthy of a double take.

Speaking to Heat, Radcliffe admitted he showed up to the Harry Potter set more often than not hungover and occasionally even still drunk from the night before. Unfortunately, he declined to give specific scenes that were shot during his altered states, but the actor was very clear that when he watches the movies he can tell.
I can point to many scenes where I’m just gone. Dead behind the eyes.

A remarkably high percentage of actors go through stages in which they’re drunks. Many of them even progress further than that. If Radcliffe is to be believed, he went through his boozed-up life phase at twenty-one and was on the right side of sobriety by twenty-two. I’m not sure if that’s a sign of great maturity since he figured it out so quickly or an awful sign since the whole thing progressed so quickly. Either way, it’s where Radcliffe is now.

Beyond the whole sloshed at Hogwarts reveal, Radcliffe discussed a few other issues including groupies. Apparently, he mostly stayed away from them, even while he was drinking heavily, because he decided long ago you “kind of have to be a dick” to be one of those guys who just picks a different woman every night.

Here’s to hoping Radcliffe produces plenty of sober on-set moments in the future.
