Elton John might be sixty-six-years-old, but the man is still a workhorse. He regularly performs more than one hundred concerts a year, and when he encounters minor health problems, he usually tries to stick it out. Unfortunately, some issues are just too dangerous to be ignored or toughed through, and appendicitis would most certainly fall on that sordid and painful list.

After undergoing some exploratory scans and blood tests, doctors recently discovered John is suffering from an appendix abscess. He was placed on antibiotics immediately and a surgery has been scheduled a few weeks from now. In theory, that should be more than enough to knock out the problem, but unfortunately, it will cause more than a few annoyances in the short-term. All of the beloved singerís upcoming concerts in Europe have been cancelled (including his headlining gig at the Barclaycard British Summer Time Festival this weekend), but if all goes according to plan, he will be back on the piano in September.

Hereís a portion of the official statement released on Sir Eltonís websiteÖ
"Elton is incredibly disappointed to postpone these tour dates. To know that he made such super-human efforts and continued to perform to thousands through his illness only confirms his dedication to his European fans. He is eager to be back on top form and return to play the remaining shows starting in early September 2013."

In addition to his rampant touring activities, Elton lives a busy life raising children and hosting luxurious parties with his longtime partner David Furnish that other celebrities get engaged at. Given his incredible wealth and all those in-demand activities, itís actually pretty crazy that heís so willing to perform so many nights a year, though itís possible he could start reducing the schedule in the coming years. After all, itís not as if anyone would think less of him for playing fifty nights a year. In fact, most observers would probably think that was still pretty damn impressive.

Pop Blendís sincerest thoughts go out to John during his recovery. Hopefully, heís able to bounce back from the bout with appendicitis as quickly as possible and reemerge without the slightest complication, ready and eager to please all of the fans heís scheduled to play for in the coming months.

Until then, you can check out a much younger Elton performing ďLevonĒ all the way back in 1971Ö
