Filmmaker David Lynch Gives Details On His New Solo Electronic Album Crazy Clown Time

We all know David Lynch for helming the bizarre masterpieces Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive. Through these films, the writer and director has shown audiences he is not only a genius in film but also a very smart guy in general. His seminal television show Twin Peaks changed TV story structure forever by introducing serialized television to the masses, while Blue Velvet revitalized the late Dennis Hopper’s career. This is all from recent memory though and if you’ve followed his work since the eerie Eraserhead, you’ll know his talent. What many people don’t know about him though is that he was also an Eagle Scout, the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America. I am a part of that rank as well, but the one thing I am not is a musician. Did you know Lynch was a musician too?

Lynch's long awaited electronic album titled Crazy Clown Time is coming out November 8th via Sunday Best Recordings. Not only does the album provide a weird name that suites the filmmaker's odd style very well, but it’s also been said by various sources, that it’s a groundbreaking record. Lynch describes the album as “inspired by modern blues, folk, indie, dance music, and the work of (his) longtime collaborator, Angelo Badalamenti.” Also, Lynch’s record is said to have a vintage sound, although it was made with an almost “100% digital technology” production style.

The album will consist of 14 tracks, all of which were written, produced, and performed by Lynch himself with the help of engineer Dean Hurley. The track “Pink’s Dream” will also feature guest vocals by Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeahs fame. If you are interested, which I sincerely hope you are, you can check out the first single from Lynch’s album Crazy Clown Time called “Good Day Today.” You can also view an interview he did with International Music Summit in Ibiza discussing the album and his recording process, which can all be seen below. It’s good stuff, so enjoy!

Ok, it’s pretty weird. What else would you expect from the guy who created Eraserhead, though?
