Hank Williams Jr.’s anti-President Obama comments might not have played well with his bosses at ESPN, but apparently, people are more excited about such diatribes in Iowa. The country star was at the State Fair over the weekend when he paused between songs to let the crowd know how much he hates the Commander-in-Chief.
”We’ve got a Muslim president who hates farming, hates the military, hates the U.S., and we hate him!”

Healthy portions of that quote might be factually inaccurate, but let the record show the final part of the accusation was pretty truthful. According to The Des Moines Register, a high percentage of the crowd cheered the performer’s verbal middle finger and chanted “USA, USA”.

As for the rest of the show, Hank apparently crushed. He reportedly covered a slew of songs by legendary performers including his own father, told some stories, belted out his own hits and had the crowd riveted for two hours. Whether or not all the good will he’d built up contributed to the crowd cheering his Muslim accusation is unclear, but I’ll give the 8,500 who were there the benefit of the doubt and say it did.

It’s one thing to accuse Obama of being a bad president. It’s quite another to claim he’s a Muslim who hates America. There’s nothing healthy about that discourse.
