How Crack Helped End Sinead O'Connor's Marriage
By Mack Rawden 4 years ago
When singer Sinead O’Connor announced the end of her sixteen day marriage, she pointed to several reasons including dissenting voices from her soon to be ex-husband Barry Herridge’s friends and family, as well as a post-wedding trip to find marijuana that went south. The first reason was accepted by most as a believable and logical reason for a union to end, but the second left many observers pining for more details. Luckily, the musician has gone public with a few more specifics.
Speaking to The Sun, O’Connor laid out what happened. Apparently, she decided she could use a victory smoke since she doesn’t drink. Unfortunately, the couple was in Las Vegas, which is a long way for people she could have potentially called to get weed. A wild cab ride followed, which ended in a bad neighborhood and a dealer mistakenly giving them crack. As anyone who watches The League probably knows, trying to buy marijuana and instead getting cocaine/ crack can be a frightening situation.
After seeing how deeply Herridge was shaken up by what happened and taking into account what all those closest to him had advised, O’Connor herself supposedly ended the relationship on Christmas Eve. Here’s what she had to say…
It felt like I was living in a coffin. It was going to be a coffin for both of us and I saw him crushed. The whole reason I ended it was out of respect and love for the man."
That sounds reasonable enough. Sometimes you find yourself in a situation that you can tell will not work. Traditionally, that’s why couples date for such an extended period of time before marrying, but as O’Connor and Herridge only spent a few months together, they probably didn’t have enough of an idea of what to expect.
