Hugh Jackman Sets Broadway Records In Return

Let the record show Hugh Jackman can still put asses in the seats. The Wolverine star was in New York this past week for the opening of his new show Hugh Jackman, Back On Broadway, and the effort racked up more than a million dollars in ticket sales. The revenues were spread over eight performances, which generated roughly one hundred and fifty thousand dollars each.

According to The Broadway League, that take represents the best of all shows for the week. Daniel Radcliffe’s turn in How To Succeed In Business and Stephen Sondheim’s Follies provided some competition, but in the end, neither could compete with the Tony Award-winning actor’s reappearance in the city.

Back On Broadway is a collection of the most beloved songs Jackman has sung before. Some are from the actor’s many movies but most are from his illustrious theater career. The show has its official opening on November 10th, but those who caught the initial efforts at the Broadhurst this past week were raving. The grosses say just as much though. It’s the biggest opening week in the history of the theater, which has already seen such high profile openings as Billy Crystal in 700 Sundays and Al Pacino in The Merchant Of Venice.

There’s no word on exactly how much money Jackman himself is making, but seeing as how the show consists only of himself and an eighteen piece orchestra, I would imagine his accountant is pretty happy. If you’re in the neighborhood, I’d highly suggest checking it out. It won’t be long before he’s back in Hollywood.
