Jerry Lee Lewis, 76, Marries Cousin's Ex-Wife, Poor Form?

Fifty some years ago, Jerry Lee Lewis was a rising star in the music industry. His singles “Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On” and “Great Balls Of Fire” had attracted loads of airplay and international attention. It was widely assumed he’d spend the next decade competing with Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins for the spotlight, but unfortunately, life didn’t play out that way. The media soon discovered the twenty-three-year-old had wed his first cousin once removed Myra Gale Brown. She was thirteen at the time, and the union caused a huge scandal that tarnished his reputation. Years later, he was able to recover a bit, but he never again reached that apex of popularity.

Now, five decades later, his life has come full circle with another head-scratching marriage. According to CNN, Lewis has officially tied the knot with Judith Brown, the ex-wife of his former teenage bride’s brother Rusty Brown. The union occurred on March 9th in Mississippi and was the singer’s seventh marriage. Two wives previously died on him, and the other four either left him or got left themselves.

Some people marry using their heads and others their hearts. Let the record show seventy-six-year-old Jerry Lee Lewis has always gone with the heart. Given his track record, I'm not sure I'd say that's always the most advisable course, but different strokes for different folks I guess. My only real question here is whether it's poor form to marry a family member's ex. It seems like that might be breaking some unwritten codes of conduct.
