Katie Holmes Is Back On Board With The Catholic Church

Based on her apparent hate for Scientology, most observers thought Katie Holmes would pick a different religion moving forward, maybe even return to the same Catholicism in which she was raised, but I’m not sure anyone realized how quickly the entire transformation would take place. Almost immediately after signing the divorce settlement with soon-to-be ex Tom Cruise, the actress apparently walked down the street to St. Francis Xavier in New York City and asked what she needed to do to become a member.

According to The Huffington Post, most Church members haven’t seen Katie inside the building yet, but her name reportedly now appears among registered parishioners. In addition to Holmes and a few other celebrities, St Francis’ also boasts numerous gay and lesbian members who worship openly thanks to very accepting and inviting local policies.

Given the religious restrictions imposed in the divorce settlement, it’s unclear whether Katie will be allowed to take Suri to church with her on Sundays, but since she’s already joined, one would imagine she’s either planning to show the little girl the ropes or else hire a regular babysitter for an hour or so every weekend from this point forward.

Clearly, whatever Katie found in Scientology wasn’t enough for her to find comfort or sustained happiness. Hopefully, a return to her childhood beliefs will give her the peace and strength needed to be a wonderful mother and the smiley girl we all fell in love with on Dawson’s Creek.
