Kobe Bryant Going To War With His Parents Over Memorabilia
Kobe Bryant is no stranger to controversy. Over the years, the star NBA player has been at war with a host of people including his teammates, the NBA and his wife. Now he can add his parents to that list of current or former foes.
According to TMZ, the problems trace their way back to an estimated one million dollars in memorabilia from the athlete’s incredible career. Recently, Kobe’s mother Pamela turned the merchandise over to an auction house to sell the pieces off and make some money. If her son is to be believed, however, she doesn’t have any right to sell any of his things because she took them from his house. As such, Kobe recently filed legal paperwork demanding a judge halt the auction, which he did until the true owner of the memorabilia can be ascertained.
In sworn depositions, Pamela and Joe Bryant both told the court this week that their son gave them numerous mementos, and because of that, they should be allowed to sell the stuff for profit if they’d like. On the other hand, Kobe’s sister reportedly told the court her mom has been plotting ways to profit off of her son’s fame for years. Because none of us were there, it’s impossible to know exactly what happened. Common sense would say Kobe probably gave some of the stuff to his mother with the intention she would cherish the items, not shamelessly profit off of them.
We’ll keep you updated on this case as it winds its way through the court system.
