Many in the Broadway theater community have expressed their condolences over the loss of a stage hand at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. Last night, before the resident Tony Award winning play, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying was to take the stage, audience members realized something was amiss.
WENN reports that the show was delayed because a 29 year-old stage hand collapsed from cardiac arrest. He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. After some time, the show’s stars, Daniel Radcliffe and John Larroquette addressed the audience, telling them that that evening night’s performance was canceled.
However, there were rumors that something more serious took place. A source to WENN alleged that "It was a stage hand who had done something terrible to himself. Apparently it happened in a bathroom backstage, and it was very, very serious." Police told the New York Times they are investigating possible drug use.
Despite all the drama, many are taking to Twitter to express their sympathies. Kristin Chenoweth, Glee star and former Glinda the Good Witch from Wicked, tweeted "Praying for the family of crew member and cast of How To Succeed." Its hard out there in the Great White Way, but it’s also good to see the support network still stands. The show is scheduled to go on tonight.
