Leanne Rimes may have generated some sympathy when she checked into an in-patient treatment program for stress and anxiety issues, but her decision to file a lawsuit against a mother and daughter for allegedly recording an angry phone call they shared following a Twitter argument hasnít played very well with many fans. Her husbandís ex-wife made some snarky comments about the litigation on Twitter, and some random chicks even started a fund to help pay the ladiesí legal defense.
Possibly because she planned to do it all along but more likely because she wanted to generate some good publicity, Rimes announced today sheíll donate any future winnings from the lawsuit to The Trevor Project, an extremely worthwhile organization that works to prevent suicides among gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning teenagers.
The roots of the lawsuit were planted when Rimes and Eddie Cibrian engaged in an affair that quickly led to the end of both of their marriages. The relationship caused a huge backlash among a certain segment of fans, many of whom felt great sympathy for Cibrianís ex-wife Brandi Glanville. Over the past few years, Rimes has done battle with many of these scorned fans on Twitter. In an effort to try and win two of her biggest critics, Kimberly and Lexi Smiley, over, she phoned them earlier this year, but they reportedly taped the conversation illegally and disseminated it on the Internet to cause further embarrassment.
According to Celebuzz, Leann is improving during her treatment and should emerge from the facility as a healthier, more well-rounded person. Whether that will convince her to drop the lawsuit, however, is unclear.
