Meet The British Man Peter Dinklage Thanked In His Golden Globes SpeechAuthor: Katey Rich

When Peter Dinklage accepted his Golden Globe last night for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Tyrion Lannister on Game of Thrones, he first thanked his wife, George R.R. Martin, his newborn daughter, all the usual suspects. But at the end of the speech he brought up "a gentleman in England I'm thinking about, Martin Henderson." He then told us to Google him. So, of course, we did.
Turns out Henderson was the victim of an attack that he told the Telegraph might have been inspired by "a dwarf-throwing contest" attended by British rugby player Mike Tindall in New Zealand. The incident happened last year during the Rugby World Cup, about a month after Tindall and his teammates attended a bar in New Zealand where something called the "Mad Midget Weekender" was held. Henderson, a 4'6 aspiring actor who's appeared as a goblin in the Harry Potter movies, says his attacker picked him up and threw him to the ground from a height of about three feet. “He did not say a word to me when he did it. He just came from behind me and picked me up. The next thing I knew I was just going through the air. I landed with a bump on the floor, turned around, but he had disappeared. “It all happened so quickly – I think he was with a group of mates and they thought it would be a laugh." The connection to Dinklage is obvious-- he's an actor who has become hugely successful not despite his small size, but often thanks to it, able to take on roles like Tyrion Lannister or his breakout performance in The Station Agent because there's no other actor out there like him. Seeing him bring publicity to Henderson's case, making the seemingly obvious point that dwarves are people too, makes you feel better about all the nonsense pomp and circumstance surrounding the Golden Globes. Between that and Meryl Streep's shootout for the underseen indie Pariah during her own acceptance speech, there were a lot of people using their starpower for good last night.
