Spinal Tap lead singer and frequent Christopher Guest collaborator Michael McKean is recovering in a New York hospital after he was hit by a car this afternoon. Currently starring in Gore Vidal’s The Best Man on Broadway, the actor was walking to the venue when he was struck in a collision that injured both him and the three passengers inside the vehicle.

According to The New York Post, McKean was taken to St. Luke’s where doctors quickly diagnosed him with a broken leg. Tests are currently being done to ascertain if more injuries are present, but for the time being, everyone is holding out hope he’ll make a full recovery. As for the show, he, unfortunately, did not make his curtain call, which is reportedly the first time he’s ever missed a performance in his thirty-plus year career.

There’s no word on how the three people who were inside the car are doing, but since their injuries were reportedly minor, we’ll assume they checked out of the hospital in no time. Besides, it’s not like they spontaneously combusted, which This Is Spinal Tap has told me happens dozens of times every year. It’s just not widely reported.

Pop Blend’s thoughts go out to McKean as she spends the next few months hobbled by his injury. Luckily for him, there will likely be plenty of Broadway shows down the road and plenty of more movies once his leg starts operating at full capacity again.
