It’s hard to imagine that twenty years has gone by in the realm of music. Some of our favorite bands dissolved, many musicians have passed away, and even more iconic albums have been re-issued and re-released for fans to listen over and over again. Nirvana is the next band to have that special treatment with their landmark release Nevermind, and on September 19 expect to see the 20th Anniversary deluxe edition in stores. According Spin, included in the set will be a 4-CD/1-DVD package, featuring rarities, B-sides, and unreleased recordings. The live DVD will also include a never before seen performance of the band in its entirety.
This is fantastic news. In seven years, the group only released three albums. When Nevermind was released twenty years ago, the record propelled the grunge movement to top of the charts, and in unison skyrocketing Kurt Cobaine and his band mates to fame. According to a statement given by Universal, they are also planning to celebrate the anniversary with "various events and releases" throughout the year. I don’t think anybody would dislike a re-release of one of rock’s more defining moments in the grunge genre. Cobain created a masterpiece in his seminal work, and this is a proper sentiment. In honor of Nevermind, here is Nirvana’s most famous song “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” check it out: |
